NEW JERSEY NANOTECHNOLOGY CONSORTIUM CHOOSES COVENTOR SOFTWARE FOR MEMS DESIGN AND ANALYSIS
Triangle -

Cary - Coventor Inc., the leading provider of MEMS design software, announced that the New Jersey Nanotechnology Consortium (NJNC), a subsidiary of Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) based at and run by Bell Labs, has signed a deal for Coventor’s Analyzer and Designer MEMS design tools.  CoventorWare is the most comprehensive suite of MEMS design tools in the industry. It acts as a seamless integrated design environment that reduces design risk, speeds time-to-market and lowers development costs.  The CoventorWare methodology enables schematic-based behavioral modeling and detailed 3D multi-physics numerical analysis to support virtually every MEMS application, from automotive sensors to RF devices, optical MEMS to microfluidics.

“Coventor’s software tools have helped us design and analyze the components for many of our MEMS projects, including development of optical cross-connects (OXC) and 1xK Wavelength Selective Switches (WSS),” said Susanne Arney, Director, MEMS and Nanotechnology Research, Bell Labs.  “Now, we’re using these same tools to support sophisticated government-funded projects such as the Coherent Communications Imaging and Targeting (CCIT) program and the Spatial Light Modulator for Maskless Lithography program for the U.S. Department of Defense.”

MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) are tiny moving chips that perform one or more optical, mechanical, electronic, thermal, or magnetic functions.   From sensors that trigger automobile airbags to handheld medical diagnostic devices, optical projection systems and next-generation communication switches, satellites and mobile handsets, MEMS technologies are greatly improving the quality of life for millions of people worldwide.
