HumanCentric to Participate in World Usability Day |
- Human Factors Experts Promoting User-Friendly Cities
CARY – HumanCentric (www.humancentric.com), an integrated product design and development company, announces today its participation in the World Usability Day (WUD) (www.worldusabilityday.org) on November 13. Triangle area celebration events are hosted by the Triangle Usability Professionals Association (TriUPA) (www.triupa.org).
HumanCentric plans to have at least one team participate in the 2008 TriUPA Design Challenge. This year’s non-competitive challenge focuses on transportation. Each team will have the opportunity to address any or all of the five usability issues:
1. How do humans interact with one or more of the aspects of transportation?
Modes, infrastructure, signage, security, technology as well as user resources such as: maps, ticket/fare purchasing, advisories, etc.
2. How do various transportation modes interact with each other?
3. How can being “green” improve usability of transportation?
4. How have accessibility issues and challenges been addressed by transportation?
5. How can we improve the user experience of waiting in the context of transportation, particularly public transportation?
In addition to the presentation by design challenge participants, HumanCentric staff will attend the TriUPA dinner that includes a User Experience (UX) trading card game. HumanCentric Design Engineer, Alex Hussain, will be one of three keynote speakers after the dinner. Other speakers are Graham James, professional transportation planner and Beth Mcgough, human factors engineer for Johnson Controls, Inc.
“Our goal is to design products that are not only beautiful, but intuitive and easy to use,” says Hussain. “Building upon success of the CityRacks Cycle Spot bike rack design, we are eager to look at other transportation issues.”
